JBMN Car show

Sunday morning we had a little more time to sleep in and relax before we lined up for our police escort to the location where the car show would take place.






Once everyone was finally up and ready we took off with police escort with every intersection blocked by police as we passed through.









Once we made it to our venue we lined up the cars and set up camp.






The kids had a ball running around the parking lot playing together.



After the cars were judged we headed inside for lunch and awards.



Leah helped herself to some tea...






Chase kept busy playing with a friend's iPad...



When it was time for awards Kevin won second place in the LX class overall, he won best exterior, and an award for taking the most passes at the track, 20 to be exact (well 3 of them were mine, but the car still did 20 total). To my surprise they also recognized all the female drivers and I got an award for being the fastest female driver, in case you missed yesterday's post that was a 12.75 @109 mph :-)...



I think Kevin was proud. So with our raffle prize of an oil change kit, we made out pretty good.


We had a wonderful time and really enjoyed getting to see everyone. We can't wait for next year's event!

West Virginia/Maryland

This weekend was the annual Joel Bender Memorial Nationals that take place in West Virginia and Maryland. It is a Thunderbird event that we like to make it to when we can because it is loaded with lots of good people, good times, fast cars, food, and fun. If you remember we made it to this event last year as well but we also had the luxury of pulling the T-bird on a trailer with the Tundra. This year as you know the Tundra is long gone so we had to get a little creative to fit four people, drag tires, and our luggage all into the Thunderbird.






You like our little extension trailer? It is pretty low to the ground so Kevin had to be cautious but it really helped to free up trunk space! We loaded up and headed on our way Friday morning and made it to our hotel in West Virginia around 6:45 making our trip about 9 hours. After settling into the hotel we headed over to Steve and Linda's house for the meet and greet.



Everyone called it a night pretty early because we had to be at the Mason-Dixon drag way at 7:30 am the next morning for drag day. It was a good thing too because it was hard to get up in the morning...



Poor Leah, she was so tired (note the large drool spot)! The car club rented out the drag strip for the morning so everyone could pretty much get unlimited passes if they wanted.






By the end Kevin finally convinced me to run the car. Since I had brain overload of everything he was trying to teach me in the 30 seconds before my first pass, I kind of forgot to take the car out of second gear. We did find out that she runs pretty fast in second gear, whoops! By my third pass I finally put all the pieces together....






I got a standing ovation for my burnout and ran a 12.75 at 109 mph. Ladies out there I have to say, it was pretty awesome. Enough about me though, Chase was reunited with his girlfriend Haley from last year.



The kids were content playing all morning on one of the car trailers, digging in rocks, or watching the racing.






The drag racing ended around 12:00 and we headed back to the hotel to prepare for the rest of the day. This is what a morning at the drag strip will do to you...



The kids of course couldn't stay asleep or just relax for a while....


They were up and ready to go so Kevin took them for a dip in the pool while I got to relax for a few minutes. Everyone gathered together again around 3:00 pm for an early dinner and then we headed to a local car show.



Overall it was a very fun and exhausting day! Coming up next the official car show.

Marshmallow Fly and Fry

Our area has endless amounts of family friendly activities. Some are for small fees but most are free and some are quite unusual. Kevin heard of one of these slightly unusual activities at a nearby park so we decided to load the kids up in the bike trailer and head on over.



Once the bikes were ready to go we headed to the Marshmallow Fly and Fry. You heard me right. We had to check this one out. When we arrived we noticed the ladder truck.



Now they raised the ladder out as far as they could and all the kids lined up and...






you guessed it. They tossed over 1,000 marshmallows for the kids to gather and then trade in for prizes. Our kids each collected a marshmallow and traded it in for suckers and stickers. They were quite proud of their prizes. Chase also quickly noticed the bounce house they had set up.









We knew there would be a fire to cook our dinner over so we came prepared...









That was one HOT fire and my "skewer" worked really well because I didn't have to stand over the fire like most people once I figured out the best place to prop it. After eating our dogs and some chips, Kevin went back and made some treats with Chase...






Yummy s'mores! After eating Leah decided to "roll" down the hill...



Wish I would have gotten that on video, she doesn't quite get the concept of rolling. We had a wonderful time at the Marshmallow Fly and Fry and look forward to more fun activities to come.

Fun Weekend

We have been loving the weather we have been having and we are also trying to cherish the last moments of summer before they completely disappear. Friday night we loaded the kids in the jogging stroller and walked downtown Farmington picking up a pizza on the way. The kids had so much fun eating pizza and running around jumping and dancing. It was a great start to an exciting weekend.

Saturday morning we got the kids up and loaded them in the Thunderbird to head to the Woodward Dream Cruise. Kevin's friend Mike and his wife met up with us at our house to cruise with us.



Getting on the expressway Kevin floored it and Chase absolutely loved being thrown back against his seat.



He laughed and laughed. Once we got onto Woodward Ave it was amazing the amount and variety of cars we saw.












Chase even got to see some of his favorite vehicles...






The mystery machine and tow-mater. Chase was so excited! As we cruised down the street you could see wall to wall cars of all varieties.






We pulled over and grabbed some lunch at a local pizza place.



The kids scored with some fun balloon hats. After lunch we headed to an area blocked off called Mustang Alley.








We had an amazing day and really enjoyed cruising with lots of amazing and unique cars.
