Happy 4th of July

We had a busy but very fun weekend getting out and seeing more of what this city has to offer. On Friday night we ventured just a couple miles from our house to a concert in the park.
Downtown Farmington is a very charming town. We stopped and grabbed some ice cream before heading to the concert.  Chase warmed up after a little while and ran around in front of the band with all the other kids dancing and having a good time.  Leah was the main attraction for all the little girls who wanted to hold her and play with her.  She was a little overwhelmed with all the attention.  It was a fun evening and we will probably catch another concert before the end of the summer.

On Saturday we decided to keep things low key and instead of taking the boat out we checked out the beach area at Walled Lake.
Leah is our little water baby, she loves to splash and play. Chase loves to dig and play with the sand.  There was a small play structure on the beach that Chase really didn't seem to notice with the water and the sand at his disposal.  After a picnic lunch on the beach we headed back home for the day.

Sunday night we decided to take Chase to see some "Pop pops" (AKA fireworks).  He started calling them pop pops last year and it has kind of stuck.  We searched online and found a town about 20 minutes away putting on a fireworks show.  It gets dark around 9:45 here in the summer so we were prepared for a late night with the kiddos. We were not prepared however for how crazy busy this place was going to be.

There were cars everywhere and people everywhere.  We were lucky to find a parking spot in the grass at a nearby high school.

We had to kill some time before the fireworks started so we rolled around on the blanket for awhile and then Kevin took the kids to find some treats.
Chase started with his headphones on but quickly decided he wasn't scared and enjoyed watching the fireworks.  Leah snuggled up for the start of the show but was quickly back to her squirmy self and was not phased by the noise.  On the way home Chase told us several time "that was fun!"

On Monday a neighbor of ours told us about a kid friendly parade in the town of Milford.  We decided to take the kids to check out the parade.  We got there a little early so we could get a good curb spot for the parade. So of course there was some waiting for the parade to start.
Finally it was time for the parade to start. They had the standard small town parade sites including dogs, horses, beauty queens, politicians, and local organizations.

Our favorite part however was the candy they threw!

Chase got a flag that he LOVES!

Leah took a little nap in her carrier.  But was awaken by Chase's favorite part of the parade.

After the parade was over we walked to a nearby park to have a picnic lunch and enjoy some playtime.  The park had one of the diggers that Chase loves.

Whew!  After all the fun things we saw and did over the weekend, we were tired.  To end the exciting weekend we found out that our kitchen table was in and ready to be picked up!
While Kevin was picking up our table he found a great deal on a new mattress. We have been looking at mattresses and discussing the need for a new mattress for a long time. Our current mattress has metal springs popping out the sides (small safety hazard with kids) and is sagging a bit in what we affectionately call our body holes :).  So now we are proud owners of a tempur-pedic mattress.  It was a good end to an exhausting weekend - a good night sleep :).  Hope that everyone had a wonderful 4th of July!

WOW --- what a weekend!! That water looks like it might have still been a tad chilly judging from Chase's body language. Raised arms and sucked in stomach... ribs showing. Small town parade FUN.. now you know where Milford is too! Like your collages too! A DEAL on a Tempur Pedic mattress??? Unheard of -- hope you enjoy it as much as we do ours. Love Grammie
