Jazz Festival

When Kevin and I first traveled to Detroit back in February, one of Kevin's co-workers gave us a drive by tour of downtown Detroit. We had only heard negatives about downtown and wanted to check it our for ourselves.  In reality it was not as bad as people had made it seem to be.  It is not a completely beautiful downtown area but it has some really nice features.  Since our drive by we had not had an opportunity to get back to the downtown area. This weekend is the Detroit Jazz festival so we decided to head downtown for some music, food, and fun. 

We parked a few blocks down from the festival so we got the scenic route on our way down.

The kids were ready to go, Chase with map in hand. Chase was very excited about getting to hear music. We finally made it down to hart plaza.

Chase was so excited and in awe of the music. Unfortunately it was BLAZING hot outside so we could not sit still for too long.  Luckily there was a fountain near by...

Chase was too chicken to actually get wet but there was a nice breeze near the fountain and a slight splash from the water felt good.  The buildings you see behind the fountain are actually in the city of Windsor, Canada. The Detroit river is actually the boarder into Canada. 

It is really a beautiful sight. There is a tunnel that goes under the the river that takes you into Canada. That is definitely on our to do list.  After a little lunch and a stroll along the river we headed to the kid bop stage to get some kid style music. 

 After some singing and dancing we decided to make our way back to the car. On the way Chase found himself a car that was just his size...

He was actually quite mad when we left without the car. He was ready to take it home and put in in HIS garage.  It took some convincing to get him to understand that he really is not old enough yet to drive. Overall we had a nice day downtown.
