Power tour 2012

One of the coolest things about living in the Detroit area has been the endless opportunities to see cool cars and car events. This year the Hot rod power tour was starting from the GM proving grounds not far from our house. In case you don't know what the hot rod power tour is, it is an annual event in which thousands of cars leave from one location and travel across country in a weeks time to another location. This year they were traveling from Michigan to Texas. Since the start location was so close to us we couldn't pass up seeing not only the massive amount of cars but the GM proving grounds. Typically the proving grounds are closed to the public, so of course every car that entered had to sign a waiver before entering. There were so many cars it took us nearly 45 minutes to get in.

Once we finally made it in it was amazing to see the variety of cars that were taking part in the tour.

The next car Kevin has claimed as "his" car...

It's the Cadillac CTS-V wagon, and in Kevin's words "its ridiculously fast and can haul the family". They had some cool cars featured at the event.

My favorite part of the day was getting to drive on a good amount of the proving grounds track. To exit the event you got to drive over 5 miles of the track.

Pictures don't really do it justice, it was a cool experience, even in the minivan. If you don't like cars you will have to bear with me through the summer because there will be a lot of car events to come.

Very cool! Kevin told me about this in an email but it's cool to see some pics. One of these years I'm hoping to do the Power Tour. The Jeep would probably be a good vehicle to do it in. :)

And tell Kevin he better hurry because a modified CTS-V wagon is also on my "to-be-owned" list! :) He's gonna have to break that frugal streak of his if he wants one of those bad boys.
